I am an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Palermo, where I am a member of the Scientific Committee of the Sustainability and Ecological Transition Centre.
I am also a Research Fellow at the a Research Fellow at the International Centre for Economic Analysis, a non-profit Research Institute at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada.
My research applies spatial econometric methods to questions at the intersection of development, agriculture, environment, and health economics. A recurring theme across these fields is how households, communities, and institutions respond to shocks, climatic, economic, or political, and what policies can make those responses more effective and equitable.
Beyond academia, I have served as a consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the World Bank, working on projects spanning sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, and the Mediterranean.
According to IDEAS/RePEc, I rank among the top 25% of economists in Italy over the past decade.
